The San Diego Regional Center (SDRC) serves people with developmental disabilities across two counties — San Diego and Imperial — a service area that stretches from the coast to the Arizona border. Vendors receiving $500,000 or more in SDRC funding during the State fiscal year must obtain an independent CPA review or audit under WIC §4652.5. We work with SDRC vendors on exactly that requirement, from the urban provider base in San Diego to the smaller, more dispersed organizations serving Imperial County.

Do you need a review or an audit?

It depends on how much San Diego Regional Center funding you receive — not your total revenue from all sources — measured across the State fiscal year (July 1 – June 30):

Vendors we work with in San Diego and beyond

The SDRC service area is unusual for how far it spreads and how bilingual it is. Down in San Diego proper you find a deep bench of residential providers, day programs, supported and independent living agencies, and a strong cohort of employment-services and ABA providers. East of the mountains, Imperial County vendors tend to be smaller, often serving Spanish-speaking families, and frequently carry higher transportation costs simply because of the distances involved. Those transportation and travel costs are a recurring 85/15 question for SDRC vendors — they are direct program costs when properly documented, but they need the right substantiation to be classified that way. We see this border-region cost structure regularly and prepare the books so it survives review.

Your deadline

Your independent report is due within nine months of your fiscal year-end, and the report plus any management letter must reach San Diego Regional Center within 30 days of when your CPA issues it. There are no extensions under the statute. Calendar-year vendors (fiscal year-end December 31) have a September 30 deadline the following year — use our deadline calculator to map yours.
